FC Platinum captain Daniel Vheremu stepped up to convert a penalty to save his team from giant slayers How Mine who had taken the lead in the 60th minute through Warren Dube’s thunderous strike in a Castle Lager League match played at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
It was the dribbling wizard Timothy January who orchestrated the move on the hour mark after beating two FC Platinum defenders.
The platinum miners took 22 minutes to reply after a blunder from Nelson Tachi who pushed Donald Ngoma in the box for referee Thabani Bamala to award the visitors a penalty.
Vheremu made no mistake beating Ephraim Mazarura from the spot.
Chikurupati seemed set to upset another giant from the first minute of the game.
Dube’s determination was visible in the fifth minute of the game while January was in charge of the left flank and created a number of chances in the first half.
In the second half FC Platinum came a rejuvenated side after the introduction of Tatenda Mudehwe who came in for Michelle Katsvairo in the 46th minute.
How Mine coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube reacted swiftly with a double substitution in the 58th minute.
Sizalobuhle Dube was introduced for Eddie Nkulungo while Qinisani Sibanda came in for Nqobile Mpala the move paid off for the gold miners as Warren was on target two minutes later.
Lloyd Mutasa’s men showed character despite being a goal down.
Platinum’s Ngoma came close to equalising in the 79th minute but missed by a few inches after connecting a low cross from substitute Obrey Chirwa.
Three minutes later FC Platinum equalised through captain Vheremu.
