How Mine cruised to the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup after dismissing fellow Bulawayo side Chicken Inn at Mandava yesterday. A 26th minute strike by veteran midfielder Wonder Sithole was all the gold miners needed to compound the GameCocks woes. Timothy January who was full of running all afternoon dribbled his marker on the right and spotted an onrushing Sithole at the edge of the box. The former Buffaloes and Dynamos man then unleashed a left footer that hit the inside of the upright before crossing the line past Elvis Chipezeze. Sithole was over the moon with the goal.

“I wanted to take the goalkeeper by surprise and I just took one of my trademark shots. I am happy that I am improving with each passing game and yesterday was one of our best performance,” said the 30-year-old player.

Chikurupati could have increased their tally in the 35th minute through Godfrey Nguwodzawo. Nkosana Nduna, the Gwanda based referee who had a good show, awarded the miners a free kick on the edge of the box.

The two Bulawayo teams have been struggling this season with their coach Philani Ncube throwing in the towel last week. Isheunesu Chaka and Jeremiah Makota were in charge of the team following the resignation of Ncube. Chaka however, still heaped praise on his former boss Ncube.
“It feels great to win. It was good work from Sithole.I learnt a lot from Philani and it was his voice which was in control. “It’s just a matter of luck and I hope God will continue blessing us. We need to remain focused,” Chaka said.

His counterpart evaded the media as he dashed to the dressing rooms after the final whistle.
