THERE was no hiding for Artwell Ndlovu, the Sizinda man who allegedly butchered his brother, as cops finally tracked him down in dramatic fashion after days on the run.
Artwell (32), who is accused of killing his elder brother Abbie Ndlovu (40), was arrested in Pumula South following a high-octane chase that ended with him being taken down by a police dog.
“He was spotted from a distance and immediately tried to flee. He jumped over durawalls, but our canine unit was too quick for him,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
The arrest comes after the horror discovery made by the brothers’ father on the morning of 30 May. He walked into the family’s Sizinda home to find Abbie’s mutilated body lying in a pool of blood.
“His intestines were protruding from the stomach. He had multiple stab wounds and a broken arm,” said Insp Msebele. “An ambulance confirmed him dead at the scene.”
Following intense investigations, police received a tip-off that Artwell was hiding at another brother’s house in Pumula South. When detectives arrived, they found his blood-soaked clothes outside but no sign of him.
Then came the chase. The suspect was spotted nearby and made a break for it. He leapt over fences in a desperate bid to escape, but a well-trained police dog brought him down just metres from his hideout.
“He tried to outrun justice, but it caught up with him,” said a CID officer who was part of the team.
Artwell is now in custody and expected to appear in court soon.
Police are reminding the public: “Do not take the law into your own hands. Find peaceful ways to resolve disputes.”
The motive behind the gruesome family murder is still under investigation.
