Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature and has antimicrobial properties. It neutralises the environment in the underarm area and destroys the bacteria.
It also works by lowering the pH of the underarm area and unclogs the pores of your skin. A drop in the pH levels keeps away the bacteria that causes the foul odour. Astringent properties of apple cider vinegar also help reduce the production of sweat.
Dip a cotton pad in apple cider vinegar and rub it on your underarms twice a day.
The smell of the vinegar evaporates in 15 minutes. You can also do an armpit detox by preparing a mask using apple cider vinegar, coconut oil and bentonite clay. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Lemon
Lemon is also acidic in nature; it, therefore, balances the pH level of the underarm skin. This property will help exfoliate the skin, removing the dead cells from the surface and lighten the dark areas.
You can directly rub a lemon slice on your underarms. If you have sensitive skin, dilute lemon juice with water and rub it using a cotton pad. Let it dry, rinse after 10 minutes and moisturise to avoid irritation.
Tea
Tea bags or green tea have antioxidant and detoxifying properties. As such, they are ideal for treating smelly underarms. Tannins present in the tea help keep the skin dry and prevent sweat formation, thus reducing chances of body odour. Dip tea bags in warm water and once completely soaked, press them against the underarms. Wait for five minutes and rinse off.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are natural antiseptics and can destroy a range of bacteria, including the ones that cause underarm odour. Tomatoes also exfoliate the skin, tighten the pores and remove dead cells. Rub a slice of tomato or extract the pulp and apply it on the underarms. Rinse after five minutes.
Baking soda
Baking soda helps neutralise underarm odour by absorbing sweat, balancing pH levels and suppressing bacterial growth. Baking soda can be used as a talc. Pat it in your underarms and once dry, dust off the excess.
You can also make a semi-solid paste by mixing baking soda and water. Apply this paste on your underarms, allow it to dry and rinse with lukewarm water. – bebeautiful.in/lifestyle
