ASSAULTING his wife for failing to conceive backfired for a Mutare man after he was fined $100.Dunmore Mandlozi (30) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Miss Nyasha Kuture for assaulting his wife, Juliet Chigaro (25) after she failed to have a second baby.
It was the State’s case led by Mr Donald Mudadirwa that on August 31, Mandlozi retired home after work at around 10pm. He asked his wife why she was not conceiving for the second time.
The couple exchanged harsh words resulting in Mandlozi assaulting his wife.
“On the day in question, Mandhlozi arrived home late at around 10pm and found his wife already in blankets. He started questioning his wife why she was failing to have their second child accusing her to be the problem.

“The couple started to exchange harsh words resulting in the assault. The complainant sustained severe injuries and a swollen face and was medically examined.” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Mandhlozi pleaded guilty to the offence. Asked why he assaulted his wife, Mandhlozi replied: “We have been talking about this issue for a long time. She doesn’t want to have a second baby. What if our only child passes away? I want many children, but she is against the idea. What kind of a wife is she?”
Miss Kuture urged him to solve family matters amicably.
“It’s a family issue that can be resolved within, do not resort to violence and don’t treat your wife as a punching bag.”
