A HARARE woman said her husband was neglecting their children in favour of taking care of his girlfriends.
Susan Kadeko said this when she claimed US$200 in maintenance for their three-year-old child on Friday.
Susan said her husband, Rukudzo Mutambi, was neglecting his child because of girlfriends and spends most of his time away from home, including weekends.
“I want US$200 for our three-year-old daughter because my child deserves the best life. Ndakamuwana ndatambura mbereko ichiramba kubata.
“My husband is a carpenter, he can afford that amount because per month he earns US$3 000, especially if he gets contracts of fitting cardboards and wardrobes.
“He used to give me US$800 per month for safe-keeping. The reason I applied for maintenance is that he no longer gives me money for food and I think he is squandering it with girlfriends.”
Rukudzo said his wife is lying that he earns US$3 000 per month.
“I cannot afford the money she claimed because the money she sees is not mine, but belongs to the company, which I don’t own.
“Your Worship, I can afford US$20 only; I wonder why she applied for maintenance because I am the one who is paying rentals and food.
“I also have another child outside, and I need to maintain that child too,” he said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Rukudzo to pay US$50 and buy clothes for the child three times a year.
