A HARARE man has accused his wife of using juju to control and manipulate him.
Elvis Zivira told the Harare Civil Court that his wife, Chidochashe Maponga, had been using various occult practices to force him to submit to her demands.
Zivira claimed one night he turned down his wife’s request for them to be intimate because they were not in good books.
The next morning, Zivira claimed, he saw a container, which was labelled “sangoma.”
He claims he found his passport-sized photos inside the container.
“I told her that I cannot live with someone who uses juju because she might be using it to tie my life,” Zivira told the court.
“Last week, I accompanied my son to school and then I decided to pay his school fees.
“My wife had told me that his fees is US$60 per month but I was shocked when I was told that the fees is US$60 per term.
“I was angry upon realising that my son had arrears at his school even though I had been giving my wife money every month to pay for the fees,” said Zivira.
He was dragged to court by Maponga who was seeking a protection order.
She claimed the herbs he saw were meant to cleanse his system and help him perform better in bed.
She claimed the herbs were given to her by the wife of Zivira’s brother.
She accused him of being violent.
“Zivira is a very violent person, every time we argue, he assaults me and also threatens to infect me with STDs,” she said.
Magistrate Joana Mukwesha advised the couple to seek counselling and to try to live in peace.
