THE Hwange Local Board (HLB) has made key service delivery milestones, inclusive of the construction of workspace for informal traders and the rehabilitation of street lighting.
The local authority has attributed this to the continued support of residents, which has ensured that they make meaningful progress in key service areas.
In a statement, HLB Town Secretary, Mr Ndumiso Mdlalose, encouraged the residents to keep the momentum going.
“Thanks to your commitment, we have made meaningful progress in key service areas such as reduced sewer bursts and blockages and improved road infrastructure, enhanced refuse collection.
“We have identified and begun constructing workspaces for informal traders, rehabilitated street lighting, with more improvements underway as well as supported immunisation and primary health care delivery,” he said.
He said they have also strengthened emergency services; including ambulance and fire response.
Mr Mdlalose encouraged residents to continue paying their rates on time, consistently and faithfully, while they work together to build a more resilient Hwange.
The developments come at a time the local authority has also announced the development of a brand-new central business district (CBD), a long-awaited greenfield project aimed at reshaping the town’s commercial, administrative and service delivery landscape.
The transformative initiative, which has been in the conceptual phase for nearly a decade, is now gaining structured momentum following a recent council resolution that sets in motion detailed planning and execution.
The project has entered the layout design stage, with a formal submission to be made to the Department of Physical Planning for approval.
This will run concurrently with a comprehensive site survey, and the preparation of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to ensure compliance with national environmental and sustainability regulations.
