BEKIMPILO Ncube is a member of the Hwange undercard having played only 105 minutes this term.
The former CAPS United third choice goalkeeper made his full debut for Nation Dube’s boys against champions Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Colliery on Sunday.
Before that, the goalmider had just been between the sticks for 15 minutes.
Hwange were outplayed, according to statistics availed by both teams’ performance analysts.
They needed someone to inspire them in defence and they found him in Ncube.
Going into this match, Hwange had suffered four defeats on the trot.
And, avoiding defeat, at least, was uppermost in their game-plan.
They didn’t have a solid method on the turf though as they allowed Takesure Chiragwi’s boys to dominate them.
According to Ngezi Platinum Stars data analyst, Tonderai Vera, the Mhondoro miners hit 14 shots at goal of which half of them were on target.
These include three point-blank efforts by Claude Mapoka, substitute Takunda Benhura and Tino Murasiranwa.
They, however, found Ncube unyielding, decisively dealing with each of those threats.
In the end, the two clubs, settled for a share of the spoils.
“It was a really tiresome match where we had to continuously defend to keep our opponents on check,” said Hwange coach Dube.
“Let me salute my boys for their positive attitude. Ngezi Platinum Stars are the defending league champions and naturally they are very tough to play against.
“It was a good game from my boys and Bekhimpilo Ncube was outstanding in between the posts.
“I am very happy that everyone just pitched up for the party. The result from Sunday’s match gives us something to build on going into the next games.”
Ncube, who has seen action with Bulawayo City, Yadah and CAPS United, said he has been working hard to continue improving.
“I am very happy with my performance against Ngezi Platinum Stars. My teammates played their part and it was a collective effort,” said Ncube.
“I will continue to work very hard going forward because at the end of the day it is about doing the right thing and give the team what they signed you for.”
