Hwengwere appointed Association for Mining Journalists in Zimbabwe patron

THE Association for Mining Journalists in Zimbabwe (AMJZ) has appointed seasoned media practitioner and a board member of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere, as its patron.
AMJZ, which was formed recently, aims to equip journalists who report on the mining industry with knowledge and skills to help them better understand various aspects of the mining sector to enable them to improve their reportage.

The mining industry is one of Zimbabwe’s major economic centrepieces accounting for over 75 percent of national export earnings.

AMJZ president, Mr Tafadzwa Dube described Mr Hwengwere as a distinguished figure in the media and mining industries saying his appointment brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the association.

Mr Hwengwere, a former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) chief executive officer, is also the founder of Ray of Hope, a firm that owns YAFM, a community radio station based in Zvishavane, Midlands Province.

“AMJZ is honoured to announce the appointment of Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere as its patron. As a distinguished figure in the media and mining industries and a board member of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), he brings extensive experience and leadership to this role,” said Mr Dube.

“As patron, Mr Hwengwere will provide honorary leadership and strategic guidance to AMJZ, advocating for ethical journalism and excellence in mining reporting.”

His role will include enhancing the association’s visibility, networking with key industry stakeholders, and promoting high standards of journalistic integrity.

“The AMJZ presidium believes that Mr Hwengwere’s appointment will significantly advance the association’s mission to improve the quality of journalism in Zimbabwe’s mining sector.”
