Young, talented and visionary chess player, Tapiwa Jele says he dreams of being a chess grandmaster in the near future.
Speaking ahead of going to Lusaka, where he will play for one of Zambia’s strongest chess teams, Jele, who is yet to record a loss in this year’s chess tournaments said it was one of his aims to one day become a chess grandmaster.
“My ambition is to become an international master, and later a chess grandmaster, the grandmaster title will then accord me a chance to be a regular national team player,” he said.
He went on to say that the deal to Lusaka will prove helpful in his career as it will expose him to a lot international chess tournaments.
He is this year’s champion of the Harare Afri Steel Open Chess Tournament.
He finished joint number two in the Zimbabwe Open Chess Tournament which was won by national champion Zhemba Jemmuse.
Jele has also been short-listed to join Makato, Masango, Mushore and Zhemba for the national team to represent Zimbabwe in the Chess Olympiad in Batuma, Georgia.
