A Harare man told the court that he only bashed his wife at his father’s funeral.
Joyous Nyakunhuwa said this in the Harare Civil Court where his wife, Fungai Chiuswa, applied for a protection order against him.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted her application.
Fungai said she was now living in fear as Joyous was in the habit of threatening to stab her to death whenever they have an argument.
“He assaults me and the last time I sustained injuries on my eye and head. He threatens to kill me with a knife each time we argue. I no longer know peace,” she said.
Joyous did not oppose the application, but claimed it was based on lies.
“I only assaulted her once when I lost my temper at my father’s funeral. There were quarrels at the funeral because my father died in a mysterious way and when I was talking to some of my relatives, she took my phone by force and I got angry,” he said.
Magistrate Chibindi ordered Joyous not to insult, assault or threaten his wife.
