A BULAWAYO woman yesterday confessed to selling mbjane for a living.
Tsitsi Mpofu, 27, of Emganwini, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Willard Moyo charged with possessing 37 grammes of dagga.
She claimed that she sold the drug to raise money to send her 5-year-old child to school and provide for her visually impaired brother.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told how Mpofu was found in possession of dagga.
“Mpofu was arrested by the police after she was found with the illegal substance in her house,” he said.
The court heard that on July 1 at around 1PM, police officers who were on patrol at Emganwini received information that Mpofu was dealing in dagga.
They proceeded to her house and conducted a search and recovered 18 twists of dagga which were in a silver tea-pot in her kitchen.
Mpofu was arrested and the street value of the recovered dagga is $36,50.
Mpofu pleaded guilty to the charge.
“I sell mbanje to get money for school fees for my 5-year-old child. I also take care of my blind brother so there are a lot of expenses. We do not have parents and I am the older one and we have no one to depend on,” she said.
Mpofu was fined $50 (or one month in prison).
