FREEZIM Congress leader Mr Joseph Busha says his party and prospective administration will not use Government vehicles once elected into office.

Mr Busha, who is among the 11 candidates that threw their hats into the presidential race, said his Government will discontinue the practice of providing senior officials with vehicles.

Speaking during a press conference in Harare yesterday, Mr Busha described the use of Government vehicles as yet another clandestine manner that senior officials use to squander tax-payers’ money.

“I am saying to Zimbabweans, elect me, choose me to be your first citizen, servant, and from there onwards there will be no corruption because I am not going to take from the people or State and I am not going to get a Government car if I am elected.

“I don’t need a Government car, Ministers don’t deserve the Land Cruisers that they are driving, they get paid so they must buy their own cars”.

The leader of the FreeZim Congress, who has been calling on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to raise the US$20,000 nomination fee for presidential candidates to US$50,000 in order to encourage serious candidates to run, also asserted that the standards necessary to become President are far too low.

“The reason why we had 23 candidates in 2018 and 11 candidates this year is simply because it’s free for all, the standard requirement for being a President in Zimbabwe has been set so low because that’s the only way to make money.

“It’s like being a pastor or so-called prophets and we cannot have people who launch their own political parties when they don’t even have a car.”

Mr Busha also vowed to end corruption if he wins the upcoming election.
