A local woman empowerment organisation has set aside a $3 million Information Communication Technology (ICT) fund to provide training for women living with disabilities across the country.
Young Women in Business (YWIB) has partnered with Nelfin Computers, a South African-based ICT firm, to set up computer training centres in schools and tertiary institutions in all 10 provinces, starting with Manicaland.
In an interview with The Herald recently, YWIB president Ms Apphia Musavengana said women with disabilities were sidelined in society and always struggled to access facil- ities.
“We are planning to install computers and set internet cables in most women’s organisations, schools and colleges, especially in those in Manicaland,” she said.
“It is a $3 million project that is meant to benefit more than 50 high schools in each province, including schools for the disabled and orphanages. The programme is meant for Zimbabwe as whole, but it will be starting in Manicaland where we have a large membership as well as most women in various businesses in need of this programme.”
