This year’s Ingwebu Traditional Dance Competition winners — Iluba Lemvelo — have dedicated the prize to their founder, Pathisa Nyoni, who passed way two months ago.
The eight-member all-women traditional dance ensemble which emerged as winners at the competition held at Big Bhawa on Sunday said they had dedicated the prize to Nyoni for her hard work.
“We accept this prize on behalf of our group co-founder Pathisa Nyoni who left us two months ago. I know that if she was here with us today, she was going to be glad that we have done well.
“This prize is dedicated to her for all the hard work and efforts she put into Illuba Lemvelo. She has a left a gap which no one can fill,” Iluba Lemvelo co-founder Muchaneta Dube said.
“We can never forget how she loved this group. We shall always remember what she did for us and how she always wanted us to succeed”.
Dube added that they were pleased to have reclaimed their position as the best traditional dance group saying the group had been slowly lost its popularity.
“This prize shows that we are reaffirming our position in the arts business in the city. This is a step in the right direction as our group was now beginning to lose its popularity,” she said.
Iluba Lemvelo thrilled patrons at the competition showing why they were the best dance group as they showcased well choreographed traditional dance moves. They shrugged off competition from five other traditional dance groups from the city and walked away with a floating trophy and $650 for coming tops.
In second place was Inxwala Dance Group who walked away with $450. How Mine Gure settled for third position and won $380.
