GREAT dancers are not great because of their technique. They are great because of their passion. Meet a 22 year- old house/Gqom dancer and choreographer Mthokozisi Dube popularly known as Mtkay Ntwana, who believes that dance lives in him. Mthokozisi Dube said he started dancing at the age of 10.
“I started dancing at a very tender age. I think I was ten years old and there was school at the same time, but all thanks to Herentials College who gave me a platform to showcase my talent as they did arts competitions every year,” he said.
The solo dancer won three talent shows and he has even competed in South Africa.
“When I was still at high school I won three talent shows in 2014 to 2017 at national level where we competed with other Herentials Colleges,” he said.
The 22 year -old said he broke into limelight last year when he started shooting videos and sharing them online. “I started shooting my videos last year and shared them online especially on Instagram and I believe that talent can take me where education cannot make me reach,” he said.
He also said he can make ends meet through dancing.
“I totally believe that my career is moving at the right direction because I have managed to work with Dj Cleo, Bizizi, Distruction Boyz and Killer Kau (all South African artistes) and recently I shot a video with Nkem (Nigerian artist),” he said.
He also gave gratitude to his manager who is also his best friend whom they grew up together.
“My manager Ziphakamise Malemani is the one who inspired me to be where I am today because he realised that I was talented and managed to manipulate my talent by organising shows for me, pushing and pulling all the strings on my behalf,” he said.
