IN his moment of triumph, Daniel Msendami remembered his moment of personal tragedy.

As he celebrated winning the South African Betway Premiership with Orlando Pirates on Saturday, his thoughts quickly switched to his late daughter.

She was only two months old when she died in March.

“This is for you, my child,” Msendami wrote on his social media handles.

His message was attached with a photo of himself and his late daughter.

The tragedy occurred two months after he joined Pirates from Marumo Gallants.

Msendami said ending Mamelodi Sundowns’ eight-year league dominance this season made the title even more special.

“Breaking their streak means everything. People said it couldn’t be done, but we believed as a group.

“To be part of the team that finally did it is a career highlight,” Msendami said.

Pirates clinched the title on Saturday by a single point on the final day to eclipse Mamelodi Sundowns, who finished on 68 points.

Msendami now turns his attention to national duty, where the Warriors are scheduled to play Nigeria in the first semi-final of the Unity Cup in London tomorrow.

The winners will face either India or Jamaica in the final.

“I can’t wait to join the Warriors camp. Representing Zimbabwe always gives me extra motivation.

“I want to bring this winning mentality to the national team,” he said.

Msendami will be hoping to bring the good fortunes from club to the national team. The forward has previously won league titles in Botswana.

Msendami won consecutive Botswana Premier League titles with Jwaneng Galaxy (2022/23, 2023/24) before moving to South Africa.

“It’s always a good feeling, lifting the league title. It’s a whole season achievement which you can only reflect at the end of the season and see how beautiful it is,” he said.
