LOVE and hate affair!
Luke Shava (23) from Pikiri Village in Zvishavane was infuriated by his grandmother over allegations that he was in love with his cousin.
Because of the brazen allegations he decided to set a bedroom hut on fire in the middle of the night while his grandmother was asleep.
Fortunately, when the hut started burning, the grandmother (name not mentioned in court) woke up and alerted other family members.
They all escaped unscathed to alert neighbours who helped put out the fire before reporting the matter to the police.
Investigations led to Shavaa��s arrest. He has since been hauled before Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing attempted murder charges.
The court heard that on 15 March around 4pm, the grandmother called Shava and questioned him about rumours circulating in the village that he was in love with one of her grandchildren.
He didna��t take the accusations lightly and a misunderstanding erupted between the two as he blamed his grandmother for believing lies.
A bitter Shava reportedly threatened to discipline liars before leaving the homestead.
During the dead of the night, he is said to have set alight the bedroom hut where the whole family was sleeping and ran to a nearby bush to hide.
Fortunately, the grandmother felt something was wrong and immediately woke up all other family members and they put out the fire.
Shava was not asked to plead and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.A� He was remanded in custody to 5 April.
