Independence preps on

He called on Zimbabweans who will attend the celebrations to maintain the spirit of nationalism and desist from wearing party regalia.
“Everything is in place and we are putting final touches on the preparations,” said Minister Chombo.
“This is a day worthy of celebration. This is the day for commemorating the attainment of our hard won independence and as such we should join together at national, provincial and district levels to have a good time on our national birthday.
“No party regalia as usual. We are all one and everyone was liberated regardless of the political party one now supports.”
This year’s theme for the Independence Day celebrations is “Indigenisation and Empowerment for Economic Transformation.” Acting Harare Provincial Governor Alfred Tome said the province was ready to host the main celebrations.
He was speaking at a meeting with the province’s organising committee yesterday.
