Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndhlovu has emphasized the urgent need for local companies to adopt energy-efficient practices, green financial models, and sustainable production technologies to remain competitive in both regional and international markets.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe (BCSDZ) 32nd annual conference held in Bulawayo, Minister Ndhlovu highlighted the growing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards in shaping market access, investment flows, and global value chain participation.

“For Zimbabwean companies to thrive, whether regionally or internationally, they must adopt energy-efficient systems, green financing models, sustainable production technologies, and responsible resource management,” said Minister Ndhlovu.
“In response to these global and regional shifts, the ministry is intensifying its policy reforms to ensure that Zimbabwe’s reindustrialisation is not only competitive, but also sustainable and future-ready.
We recognise that the next generation of industries must be built on foundations that protect the environment, conserve resources, and align with international sustainability benchmarks.”
The conference, held under the theme “Industry 5.0: A Tool for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development,” was hosted in partnership with the City of Bulawayo and the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Ndhlovu described Industry 5.0 as a new industrial paradigm that goes beyond automation and digitalisation.

He explained that this new wave of industrialisation is advancing rapidly, integrating artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, cyber-physical systems, green technologies, circular-economy solutions, and data-driven production models.
“Crucially, Industry 5.0 places people, communities, and the environment at the centre of industrial progress,” he added.
