The Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe (BCSDZ) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and the City of Bulawayo to promote sustainable development within local authorities and across the nation.
The MoU was signed during the BCSDZ 32nd Annual Conference held in Bulawayo on Friday.
In his remarks, BCSDZ chairperson Engineer Kurai Matsheza highlighted the council’s progress in collaborating with various government ministries and organisations critical to advancing sustainable industrialisation.
He explained that in 2025, BCSDZ intensified cooperation with relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies. Engaging with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the parties agreed to work together on developing and implementing a green industry strategy and enhancing standards for conservation within Zimbabwe’s private sector, aligned with the NDS2 and the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2.
“Engagements were also done with the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife and discussions for signing an MoU were explored. BCSDZ also engaged with the Ministry of Energy and Power Development to explore areas of deepening cooperation to be sustained from energy,” said Eng Matsheza.
“Areas of cooperation were also agreed with the Environmental Management Agency, and a draft MoU is in place. One priority area is extended producer responsibility implementation.
“The BCSDZ agreed to an MoU with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and the City of Bulawayo. The signing will be done during this conference.”
Other initiatives mentioned by Eng Matsheza include the BCSDZ Code, which serves as a practical tool to support organisational sustainability strategies. The code complements existing frameworks such as the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), while promoting and incentivising the adoption of sustainable practices.
“The code was validated in 2025 and the implementation begins in 2026,” he added.
