NEMBUDZIYA High School in Gokwe North District, Midlands Province, has undergone a significant transformation following the completion of an extensive infrastructure upgrade programme aimed at improving the learning environment and reducing pressure on existing facilities.
The upgrade included the construction of five key new buildings — a science laboratory, a home economics block, an administration block, a classroom block and modern ablution facilities. Several existing structures were also refurbished, resulting in a notable enhancement of the school’s overall infrastructure.
The development is part of wider infrastructural improvements carried out at various schools in Gokwe North ahead of last year’s national Independence Day celebrations, which were hosted in the district.

Hosting the national commemorations accelerated development in the area, with education infrastructure emerging as one of the major beneficiaries.
Nembudziya High School headmaster, Mr Andrew Muyashu, said the completion of the project marked a major milestone for the institution.
“The new facilities will go a long way in providing a conducive learning environment for our pupils. We are grateful to His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, for upgrading our school. We now have infrastructure that can compete with schools in urban areas,” he said.
Mr Muyashu added that the expanded facilities had enabled the school to eliminate the long standing hot seating system that had previously been caused by limited classroom space.

“We have done away with hot sitting since we now have enough classrooms to accommodate our learners. As a result, enrolment has increased from 900 to 1 000 pupils, which is a positive development for the school and the community,” he said.
The Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, said the upgrade at Nembudziya High School reflected the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusive development.
“Under the Second Republic, no one and no place will be left behind in terms of socio-economic development.
“Nembudziya High School is among several institutions that benefited from rehabilitation and expansion works last year,” he said.

Minister Ncube further noted that Government continues to prioritise rural infrastructure development as part of its inclusive development and rural industrialisation agenda under the leadership of President Mnangagwa.
The community has embraced the upgrade, expressing confidence that the improved facilities will help boost academic performance.
“This is a welcome development for the district. With improved facilities, we are confident that learners will perform better and the school will continue to grow,” said parent Mrs Angela Sibanda.
