Inheritance Dispute Erupts, Family members worried following disappearance of relative

Sunday News Reporter

A bitter inheritance dispute has engulfed the family of the late Mackson Luphahla, who passed away in November 2020.

Luphahla, a respected land and property owner, left behind a house in Nkulumane, Bulawayo, a plot in Tsholotsho with over 100 cattle, several goats, and multiple vehicles. However, his passing has sparked tensions, with family members alleging harassment and intimidation by his younger brother, Steven Luphahla.

According to a family spokesperson who requested anonymity, Steven, a war veteran, Zanu-PF member, and someone allegedly well-connected with the police, began targeting the family shortly after Mackson’s death.

The family member claims Steven took advantage of Mackson’s widow, who is reportedly struggling with mental illness, and shifted his focus to the couple’s first-born daughter, Veronica Patience Luphahla.

“Steven has been harassing Veronica, demanding that she hands over title deeds and all the registration documents for her late father’s property,” the family member revealed.

“He even boasts to relatives that he is untouchable and won’t stop until he takes control of Mackson’s estate. Veronica has been living in fear ever since.”

The tense situation escalated recently when Veronica fled to Tsholotsho to escape her uncle’s relentless demands. However, Steven allegedly declared to family members that he would track her down until she hands over the property.

“Steven has made it clear that he will not rest until he gets what he wants,” the family member added. “Now, Veronica has gone missing, and no one knows where she is. We are extremely worried about her safety.”

The family is now appealing for assistance as tensions continue to rise. Several members have expressed concern over Steven’s alleged abuse of power and his connections, which they believe make it difficult to challenge him legally or otherwise.

As the family deals with the fallout of Mackson’s passing, they are calling for authorities to intervene and ensure the safety of Veronica and the rightful inheritance of Mackson’s property.

“This is a tragic situation,” the family member concluded. “It is heartbreaking to see a family torn apart like this. We just want justice for Veronica and for Mackson’s legacy to be protected.”

Efforts to reach Steven Luphahla for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication. The story continues to unfold as the family hopes for a resolution.
