SOUTHERN Region Women Soccer League champions Inline Academy say they feel honoured to be part of the Highlanders@90 celebrations after being roped into the second edition of the Royal Cup set for Barbourfields Stadium on February 25.
Inline Academy will lock horns with Highlanders Royals in a curtain-raiser for the main match pitting Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers from Swaziland.
The event is an initiative of the Royal Cup Trust Foundation, a project initially mooted to help Highlanders FC in its 90th anniversary celebrations by organising matches involving Bosso and teams from Southern Africa. Inline Academy coach Boga Ndebele said they are excited to be part of such a historic moment marking a milestone for the country’s oldest football club.
“We are happy and it is an honour and a privilege to be part of this historic moment. Highlanders are the oldest and one of the biggest clubs in the country, and to be part of their celebrations is phenomenal. We are truly grateful to have been invited,” said Ndebele.
He said despite winning all their matches against Highlanders Royals in the league, the Royal Cup encounter will be a tough game because their opponents would not want to mar their club’s celebrations by losing.
“It is important for us to win the match as we are using it to assess our strength ahead of 2017.
Highlanders Royals only managed to record four wins out of 22 matches in the league this year, while Inline Academy had an impressive run of 18 wins, three draws and one loss.
