THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Bulawayo co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu has promised to produce sports personalities of repute in 2017.
He said all persons involved in sport, be it as administrators or athletes, must endeavour to live, walk and talk the ethos of the new National Sport and Recreation policy and strategy.
“We want to get Bulawayo to shine on the sporting arena; we want to continue producing some excellent and promising sporting talent that will dominant our national youth and senior teams through our sport delivery agents,” said Dzvimbu.
He said sports associations must also be well governed by embracing high levels of professionalism that will make the province an envy of many.
“The associations must live, walk and talk the ethos of the new National Sport and Recreation policy and strategy. We must obviously continue to have good relations with all sport organisations and administrators within the province and region in order to foster good sport and recreation development,” said Dzvimbu.
Bulawayo has continued to host national and regional sporting events largely due to the state-of-the-art sporting equipment built in 2014 for the African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Youth Games.
The city played host to the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) ball games, the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union Games, Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Associations and Technical Institutions Staff Sports Associations of Zimbabwe. There was also an international lecture by renowned United States-based former athlete Arnold Payne.
The city’s football and netball teams won gold while the volleyball side settled for second place at this year’s Youth Education through Sport (YES) Games held in Hwange.
