AN inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting another inmate.
Brian Shereni (39) appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa charged with aggravated indecent assault.
He was advised to seek bail at the High Court and is scheduled to return to court on November 11 pending finalisation of investigations. The complainant is aged 36 and also jailed at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.
The State alleged that on October 29 at around 5am, Shereni, who was sleeping next to the complainant, took advantage that he was asleep and was also naked and sexually assaulted him without his consent.
The complainant awoke during the assault. He screamed and other inmates came to his rescue. The complainant reported the matter to his cell staff, a senior inmate, who informed Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officers and later a report was made at ZRP Highlands.
