THE Ministry of Health and Child Care director data analysis and health informatics, Simukai Zizhou, said technological innovation solutions could help in addressing neonatal mortality in Zimbabwe.
This ensures that every child has a chance to live and thrive.
Speaking during a UNICEF webinar, he said there is a need for community health management systems, which can monitor mothers and gather relevant data.
“We should develop more platforms of monitoring neonates under our care so that we can improve the quality of services they receive in hospitals.
“This will enable health workers to pick up any problems in hospitals through the systems. “If the country uses electronic platforms and they work properly, we will do well,” he said.
He said there is a need to document essential information in platforms to capture issues such as deficiencies and put them on record.
“If the information is not recorded, it becomes difficult to make practical interventions and engage policy makers.
“The current problem we are facing needs us to address teenage pregnancies, nutrition and sanitation.
“If we address these, and make use of innovations, we will deal with neonatal mortality.”
He said there is a need to include community health workers.
