From Black Coffee to MySol, Cape Town’s Billionaires’ Row continues to attract some of the wealthiest and most influential names in the world.
And at the centre of it all? Nettleton Road – arguably South Africa’s most exclusive address.
Known for its jaw-dropping ocean views, ultra-private mansions and record-breaking property sales, the iconic Clifton street has become the ultimate status symbol for billionaires, celebrities and business moguls alike.
Music producer and global superstar Black Coffee made headlines when he purchased The Pentagon, a luxurious R157 million mansion perched high above the Atlantic Ocean.
The property boasts sweeping views of the ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountain range, making it one of the most desirable homes on the Atlantic Seaboard.
The area is also home to the famous Iron Man Villa, also known as Pengilly House, is a property synonymous with luxury living in Cape Town.
Over the years, the neighbourhood has attracted high-profile residents including Carl XVI Gustaf, Silvia of Sweden, George Michael and Nicolas Cage.
Now, another prominent name has joined the billionaire enclave. Mining and logistics businessman Solly Soka Madibela, better known as MySol, recently made waves after reportedly purchasing a R220 million mansion on the sought-after road.
Naturally, MySol did not quietly move in. The businessman celebrated with a lavish multi-day housewarming party that quickly became social media material.
Guests included DJ Tira, Kwesta, Mlindo the Vocalist, Babalwa M, Blaq Diamond, Sjava, DJ PH and Zola 7, among others.
The celebration reportedly featured sunset pool sessions, live saxophone performances, fireworks, roaming champagne service and artist performances – all against the backdrop of one of the country’s most expensive homes.
Inside MySol’s R220 million Clifton mansion
The mansion itself sounds more like a private luxury resort than a family home.
Situated across four levels, the ultra-modern property reportedly includes seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a six-car garage.
Entertainment and leisure features include a private cinema, temperature-controlled wine cellar, cocktail bar, spa facilities and a fully equipped gym.
Outside, the property boasts an infinity pool, jacuzzi, boma area and a covered entertainment patio complete with a built-in braai.
Of course, the uninterrupted Atlantic Ocean views remain the real showstopper. Add advanced security systems, staff accommodation and sleek architectural finishes into the mix, and it’s easy to see why the property has been described as a “private hotel on the ocean”.
The mansion purchase also follows reports of MySol adding a luxurious Rolls-Royce Cullinan to his growing collection of high-end assets.
Why Nettleton Road is South Africa’s most expensive street
Nettleton Road, located along the slopes of Lion’s Head in Clifton, has built a reputation as the playground of billionaires.
Its appeal lies in its unmatched privacy, limited property availability and postcard-perfect scenery.
Residents enjoy panoramic views stretching across the Atlantic Ocean, Clifton’s white sand beaches and the Twelve Apostles mountain range – all while remaining just minutes away from Camps Bay’s restaurants and Cape Town’s city centre.
Properties along the road are known for their architectural brilliance, often featuring glass elevators, rim-flow pools and contemporary designs by award-winning architects.
With demand consistently outweighing supply, property prices on the street continue to soar.
Some plots alone have reportedly sold for well over R170 million, cementing Nettleton Road’s reputation as the most prestigious residential address in South Africa – and possibly the continent. – IOL
