AS Russia marks the 80th anniversary of its historic victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) has extended a heartfelt message of congratulations to the Russian Federation and its President, Vladimir Putin, highlighting the enduring bonds of solidarity between Russia and Africa.

In a statement, INSTAK chairman, Ambassador Professor Simbi Mubako saluted the courage and sacrifice of the Russian people during the Second World War and recognised Russia’s pivotal role in supporting African liberation movements in the 20th Century.

“Your resilience, dedication and determination during the war resulted in your autonomy and greatly contributed to Africa’s own journey to freedom,” said Ambassador Mubako.

“Your victory in the Great Patriotic War left an undeniable footprint in the liberation history of Africa.”

The message, jointly endorsed by INSTAK’s board of trustees, CEO Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi, management and staff, draws a powerful connection between Russia’s wartime sacrifices and its post-war international legacy, particularly its contributions to dismantling colonial systems in Africa.

Ambassador Mubako said the occasion was not only a moment of reflection for Russia, but also for African nations who benefited from the solidarity extended during their own struggles for self-determination.

“This anniversary is not just about the past, it is a celebration of shared history and mutual respect,” he said.

“We are proud to stand with the Russian people as they mark this significant milestone.”

Ambassador Mubako expressed hope for continued cooperation and prosperity between the two regions, echoing a pan-African spirit of unity.
