A JOURNALISM intern attached to the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services at the Chipinge Government Complex has been arrested after allegedly stealing a laptop and selling it in neighbouring Mozambique.
The suspect, Livingstone Mtetwa (28), was on attachment with the Ministry in 2024 when he reportedly gained access to the offices in the absence of his supervisor, Chipinge District Information Officer Mr Zain Dube, and took the laptop.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the case, saying Mtetwa vanished from Chipinge soon after the incident but resurfaced in December, leading to his arrest.
“Sometime in May 2024, the accused person entered the District Information Officer’s office and stole an HP laptop, going unnoticed. The complainant reported the matter to ZRP Chipinge Urban. On December 24, 2025, police officers on patrol received information from informants that the accused, the prime suspect, had resurfaced in the area.
“Police swiftly reacted to the information and arrested the accused at his residence in Gaza suburb. He was taken to the police station for questioning, where he admitted stealing the laptop while still an intern at the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. Mtetwa revealed he sold the laptop to a stranger in Chimoio, Mozambique. He is expected to appear in court soon,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
