International judo director Messner visits Zim

THE Zimbabwe Judo Association will host International Judo Federation, sport development and peace director, Nicolas Messner, who will arrive in the country tomorrow.

Messner is scheduled to arrive in Zimbabwe tomorrow and will tour Tongogara refugee camp from Monday before his departure on Wednesday.

The Judo Association of Zimbabwe president Smart Deke, in a statement, said they are pleased to be hosting such a high-profile delegation.

“We are pleased to announce the upcoming visit of Messner, the International Judo Federation’s (IJF) Social Development Programme (SDP) director who will be in the country for four days.

“The veteran director will be accompanied by the regional judo for peace delegates Mavuto Nguni, who is the Zambia general secretary and the administrative director for the regional programme, Carol Chipupu.

“We are thankful to the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, who are funding the expert’s stay. The purpose of the visit is to go to Tongogara refugee camp and conduct programmes on sports development and safeguarding in sport as well as reporting mechanisms.

“Messner has already been to Zambia, Malawi and now Zimbabwe. As Judo Association of Zimbabwe we are grateful that the Government is in great support of increased participation and improved performance in future,” said Deke.
