International riders for Summer Series

more than 20 international motorbike riders are expected to grace this competition at Donnybrook and Marondera in December.
Four days have been set aside for the 2011 Summer Series with the event’s first meeting scheduled for December 7 at the home of local motorsport – Donnybrook.
Donnybrook will host two more Summer Series race meetings on December 9 and 11 while December 10 will see the event moving to Marondera.

And according to the chairman of this year’s Summer Series, Gary Grainger, a full range of local motocross riders are expected to be joined by more than 20 internationals during this event.
“Preparations for the 2011 Summer Series are well on course and we are hoping to get more than 20 international riders for this event.
“Nothing has been confirmed yet because the entries have just been opened but we are hoping to get at least 20, if not more, international motocross riders for this year’s Summer Series,” Grainger said.

The Summer Series always attract top motocross riders from South Africa, Zambia and Botswana, and the three countries are once again expected to send competitors for this year’s event.
They are likely to be joined by a host of top local riders who will be led by Ashley Thixton and Kurt Greatorex.

Mike Mawarire of Zvishavane is also expected to bring his three equally talented sons – Tyler, Tafadzwa and Mike (Jnr) – to this year’s Summer Series.
Last year’s Summer Series was graced by former world champion Greg Albertyn who flew all the way from the United States to compete in this exciting event.

And Grainger said they were hoping to attract another “big name” for this year’s competition.
“The Summer Series has always been a very popular event in this part of then world and a number of international riders are always keen to come down here to compete against our top motocross riders in this event.

“So, this year will be no exception and we are hoping to get a full house of entries for this event which we are convinced will be bigger and better than the one we staged last year,” Grainger said.
This year’s Summer Series will consist of two Supercross (night racing events) and two motocross meetings.

Grainger said the first Supercross meet will be staged on December 7 at Donnybrook followed by another similar race two days later at the same venue.
After the two Supercross races on December 7 and 9, the riders will move to Marondera, some 65km outside Harare, on December 10 for the first motocross meet.

The next one will be staged at Donnybrook the following day.
The Summer Series is staged annually by the Bogwheelers Club who run the sport of motocross in this country under the supervision of the Zimbabwe Motorsport Federation.
