comply with the country’s indigenisation and empowerment policy.
Cde Chidarikire was speaking at a recent meeting with a Chinese delegation from Gansu province, who are keen to invest in the mining sector.
He said there were many investment opportunities in the country and those willing to invest should contribute to the well being of the people in the surrounding communities.
“Zimbabwe is considered the richest in minerals in the whole world and we welcome investors but they should be in a position to comply with our laws with regards to how much they should contribute to the society.
“We should operate on a win-win situation and we say no to countries that want to loot our minerals at the expense of our country and its people,” he said.
Zimbabwe, said Cde Chidarikire, was seeking to partner and create friendships that would benefit and improve the economy and the livelihood of Zimbabweans.
“Gone are the days when the West used to dictate to us and limit us on who to trade and socialise with as Zimbabwe is a sovereign state and has the mandate to choose who to partner with as far as foreign investment is concerned,” he said.
Cde Chidarikire said its now the time for Zimbabweans to benefit from their country’s resources. He said Zimbabwe has not realised full potential in the mining sector because most of the mining that had been done was largely on a small-scale basis.
“Mining has been mainly on small-scale, and we developed most of our towns from that.
“We now invite foreigners to partner with locals in setting up mining companies.
“Our Look East policy has attracted many investors who are willing to work hand in hand with communities and China has played a pivotal part in recognising the need to benefit Zimbabweans,” he said.
