Isaac Masame signs new two-year deal

ISAAC Masame says he looks set to finish his career at Hwange after the veteran midfielder agreed to a new two-year deal with the coal-miners at the weekend.

The 33-year-old has been undecided following the expiry of his contract on December 31, with reports suggesting that he was on his way out after going AWOL towards the end of last season.

“I am happy that I am part of this family and to me this contract extension is more like a marriage certificate.

“It’s now more than certain that my career is now ending at Hwange and it is my wish that I finish with something tangible, like a champions medal. It’s a fact that Hwange have never won the championship for all these years they have played Premiership football but if you look at the quality of the team, this side has the potential to lift the title.

“Last year we were on track, but because of other problems that we faced along the way, we lost the plot despite starting well,” said Masame.

The coal miners have indicated they are keeping their squad intact despite receiving enquiries about their players from other Premiership teams. Hwange coach Nation Dube said about five of their players, including striker Evans Rusike and Rodwell Chinyengetere, were targeted by other Premiership teams.

Chinyengetere’s contract expired at the end of the year and is expected to pen a new deal at Hwange after his bid to move to FC Platinum failed.

Striker Alick Marime is also staying put as he has agreed to a contract extension. The coal-miners, who were expected to begin their pre-season yesterday, have promoted midfielder Gift Mbweti and Innocent Muchaneka from their juniors.
