THE relegation battle is getting tense and it looks like the task is now even more difficult for Harare City. Their coach Taurai Mangwiro is trying all he can to save the municipal side from the dreaded chop. He has roped in former Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa and ex-Dynamos gaffer Elvis Chiweshe to assist him with fresh ideas.
Sadly, Harare City could not get maximum points against another relegation-threatened side ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
It was a share of spoils that left City mired in the red zone.
They are fourth from bottom with 24 points, four behind ZPC Kariba, who have now picked up four points in their last two consecutive away matches. Kauya Katuruturu beat Tenax 2-0 last weekend, before settling for a draw against City yesterday.
“We will try as much as possible to bring in new ideas, new drills,” said Mangwiro.
“The task (surviving relegation) is now even more difficult, but, at the end of it all, we need to keep believing.”
ZPC Kariba coach Rodwell Dhlakama fears fatigue could affect his players.
They travelled to Rusape last weekend before making the trip to Harare yesterday.
“We need to pick up points.
“We need to have the zeal, otherwise, we are still in the relegation waters,” said Dhlakama.
It was not so good for other relegation candidates Bulawayo City and WhaWha, who lost to Cranborne Bullets and FC Platinum, respectively, by identical 1-2 scorelines.
Bulawayo City remain third from bottom with 24 points, and have an inferior goal difference against Harare City.
WhaWha anchor the log with 20 points, and look a sure bet for relegation.
