MANICA Diamonds goalkeeper, Tedious “WIFI” Baye, says it was a brutal season for them as they had to play all their matches away from home.

Despite the challenges, the Gem Boys finished second in the championship race.

“For us, we were always on the road to fulfil the matches either home or away.

“It required us to give maximum concentration and being in the title race at some point meant we had to sacrifice all we had.

“Finishing second wasn’t bad for us considering the history of the team.

“We have set a bar that wasn’t there before but now it can be said we have achieved this and, with more work, it means the team can now aim for the championship in the coming years.”

he learnt a lot in his maiden season in the domestic Premiership.

He was signed at the start of the season from Greenfuel and came in as a third-choice goalkeeper.

The Gem Boys already had Jorum Muchambo and Geoffrey Chitsumba.

But, Baye was then promoted and managed to make 25 appearances, 13 clean sheets and conceding 16 goals.

“It wasn’t easy at first as it took some time for me to settle and gel with the rest of the squad.

“Come the end of the season, I am now a better player in many aspects of the game as I have gained experience and learned a lot.

“This season was a long one for me.”
