MOTORISTS have welcomed the partial opening of the Masvingo-Glen Norah loop road, a key part of the ongoing Mbudzi Interchange project, which aims to ease traffic congestion in the southern part of Harare.
The Mbudzi Interchange, which is located at the busy intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen Roads, replaces the old roundabout that had become a notorious bottleneck for traffic, particularly during peak hours.
A motorist, Kudzanai Gwagwa said:
“I am happy that it’s going to decongest the roads, those of us who will be heading north will also benefit from this stretch of road.
“It has been a challenging process for residents around the interchange but it’s a phase that will pass.”
Another motorist, Andrew Khosa, said:
“This road is key to smooth traffic flow. I am sure you would have seen from the congestion that followed its closure.
“We have been facing many challenges, especially congestion. I hope these developments will make things easier.
“Traffic congestion had become the order of the day on many roads as motorists sought to navigate their way out of town.
“Today has been generally fine as motorists had many options following the reopening.
“I hope the congestion of recent days is over while I also pray that the Government expedites the widening of roads and construction of flyovers to effectively deal with congestion.”
Another motorist, Fortunate Madzivanzira, said:
“It is refreshing to have this intersection reopened to traffic. I was dreading getting into town in the mornings and evenings.
“I thank the Government for the construction works done at this intersection.
“It shows that the Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa, is living true to its promise of transforming infrastructure in the country.
“We want to see more of these developments, especially the dualisation of roads, so that we reduce congestion.”
Truck driver Martin Choto said the refurbishment was a lifeline for them.
“The road was in a dilapidated state, making our journeys challenging. Now, with the rehabilitation, it will not only enhance our daily business but also significantly reduce the frequency of accidents.
“This refurbishment is a breath of fresh air and we are grateful that the government is addressing the infrastructure needs that directly impact our daily lives.
“The government’s commitment to improving our roads is commendable.”
