A VIDEO and photographs of a car, which was used by two scammers to steal US$500 from an unsuspecting elderly woman who was doing her routine morning walk in Harare on Monday, have emerged.
The incident happened along Dan Judson Street in Belvedere, a suburb of Harare.
The victim, who stays in the same suburb, was approached by a car, which was being driven by a man while the passenger was a woman.
The con woman, who was in the car, sold the elderly woman a dummy, claiming that she knew her daughter from a long time ago.
“The con woman told the victim that she was happy to meet her after a long time and wanted to give her US$20 so that she could buy some drinks after her workout.
“She said she had US$100 and would require her change, which she wanted to use for some other business.
“The unsuspecting victim was convinced this was all true and told the con woman that she had the change at her house not far away from where they were.
“They went to her house and that is where she lost the US$500 which was in an envelope.
“She was left holding a fake US$100 note that she got from the con woman.”
H-Metro has obtained some of the images of the incident which were captured by CCTV cameras in the same neighbourhood.
