CHEGUTU Pirates defender Gibson Gaison, who scored the golden goal which took his team to within touching distance of a place in the domestic Premiership, has dedicated the win to the club’s late sons.
Zaire, as Pirates are also known, beat Black Mambas 1-0 at Pfupajena on Saturday to take control of the championship race with one game to play.
Gaison dedicated the win to the club’s two late sons, Kenny Ndhlovu and Columbus Makumbe.
Kenny Ndhlovu, the former team mananger, died in Bulawayo.
Makumbe, a Norton businessman who used to sponsor the club, died earlier this year.
“I’m happy to have scored this important goal for Pirates and this win has put us one foot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League,” he said.
“It’s up to us to guard against complacency when we face Herentals Under-20 next week.
“When we won the corner kick, as I was surging upfront to aid the weight of attack, I could feel that it was my time to shine for our fans who had been singing in the terraces urging us score.
“When I scored, the first thing that came into my mind was that this goal was for mudhara Kenny Ndhlovu and our sponsor at one time, Columbus Makumbe.
“These two late Zaire sons deserve a token of appreciation and this win is exclusively for them and I’m sure they’re turning with joy in their graves.
“Hopefully, they’re behind us spiritually as we embark on the last fixture of the title campaign when we take on Herentals Under-20 next week at our fortress Pfupajena Stadium and we won’t disappoint them and all our fans.”
