do with the money keep ballooning. I am not referring to luxuries but necessities such as bills, school fees, food, clothes and many others. Talk about strained relationships, illnesses and deaths within families.
Sometimes the world around us seems to be crumbling. The road appears to come to a dead end and the carpet pulled under our feet.
When you consider all this as you go through difficult times you appreciate better the scripture that says “all other ground is sinking sand.”
One really needs to have a fighting spirit, inner strength and firm base to stand on or hold on to so as to keeping going. The way one responds or perceives these situations determines whether we crumble or persevere to the end. I think the major battle is in the mind. If we see the situation big and insurmountable we are bound to succumb to pressure and at time do things that give temporary reprieve.
Some people turn to alcohol and drugs because they claim that it takes the pressure away from the active conscience.
By so doing they will be postponing the problem to later so they can enjoy the moment. One thing that I have observed is that no degree of intoxication can take away the pain. Many times you see these people crying and telling their story over and over again to anyone who would care to listen.
Others throw all caution to the wind in order to have a quick fix of the problem. This also can create more problems. There are others, however, that take drastic action and end their lives in either
violent or non violent ways depending on whether the person is angry or depressed. Such people would have lost all hope of living a decent and happy life.
Some people take their lives because they are ashamed to face the world because they would have lived a lie for a long time. This, however, is not sustainable so to save face they chose the way that seems easier to them at that moment.
Sadly, also society does not make life any easier for those who would have fallen from grace. To them it is the end of the road. What these people do is to wriggle themselves from the situation and leave others to grapple with the loss and also the problem that drove them to the edge.
Loss of a loved one through suicide leaves many questions. Where there is no story left behind people ask a lot of questions on what could have been the deciding factor. Usually all possible causes seem trivial to those remaining behind.
Whatever the cause, suicide emphasise the need for people to share their burdens with a trusted person or persons. It also underscores the importance of listening to cries for help some of them so subtle for timely intervention.
Think of a person like Judas Iscariot who was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. After betraying Jesus Christ to be killed, Judas filled with remorse tried to return the thirty silver coins he had got from the chief priest and elders as payment.
He was told in his face that this was his responsibility.
He could not undo what he had done so his way out of the situation was to hang himself. I know many believers do not really sympathise with Judas because his end is more like a deserved one.
Judas situation is not unique. We have people who did things that weigh down their conscience. They regret ever doing it and therefore need love and reassurance but the world is found wanting.
One thing that also puts pressure on people is the feeling of being a failure. In this group there are two kinds of people. One has many years of hard work and toil but nothing to show for it. This realisation can lead some people to create shortcuts to make up.
The other category represents those people that had all the chances in life but blew them off. Usually this is due to lack of vision that makes them live for the moment and also lack of discipline.
In my view the later group falls into the high risk category. Such a person has no one else to blame but himself/herself. They feel trapped in their situation and unfortunately cannot turn back the hands of time.
Society does not make it any easier because people add salt to injury. We keep labelling such people, ignoring them or dismiss them. As a result any cry for help falls on deaf ears. This feeling of being a failure if not managed can lead someone to do the unthinkable.
I believe it is important in life to have a rock solid base for support to be able to walk through situations.
I know people have different believes on the sources of their strength. What is important is to have a source of strength that really fills up the void that is created by your situation. Personally, I trust the word of God that is filled with promises of hope, peace, rest and a friend who sticks closer than a brother more fulfilling.
What people need to understand is it is never too late to pick up the pieces and rebuild life. Whatever your situation there is room to ‘rise, dust self and move on.’
Throwing away our lives in whatever way is not an answer to a problem. It actually creates more problems for us and others.
While you cannot turn back the hands of time you can make a choice today to turn over a new leaf and set your life on the right path. Your situation whether be it self inflicted or not is not the end of the road.
The course can change by just making the right choice and God’s favour could blow in your direction.
One thing you need to know as Cameron Diaz says “your regrets aren’t what you did, but what you didn’t do. So take every opportunity.” So my advice is make a fresh start today and also optimal use of every opportunity that comes your way.
