VETERAN defender Godknows Murwira says his loan move to FC Hunters from champions Scottland was motivated by the desire to get more playing time.

He also wants to help the side retain their top-flight status. The Warriors utility player found opportunities limited at Mabviravira, where competition for places intensified following the club’s aggressive recruitment drive.

Murwira said the move represents a new chapter in his career and an opportunity to contribute his experience to a side battling to establish itself in the Premiership.

“Every player wants to be on the pitch and contributing. I enjoyed my time at Scottland and I learnt a lot, but at this stage of my career, I felt it was important to get regular game time,” said Murwira.

“Hunters presented me with a good opportunity and a new challenge.

“I am here to work hard, help the team and give everything whenever I am called upon.”

The experienced defender, who has previously featured for some of the country’s biggest clubs, arrives at Hunters with valuable experience as the club looks to navigate a demanding debut season in the top-flight league.

Murwira believes his experience can play a key role in helping the squad, but insists survival will require a collective effort.

“It is not about one player coming in and changing everything. Football is about teamwork.

“I will share my experience where I can, especially with the younger players, but everyone has a role to play.

“The most important thing is to fight together as a team. Hunters have quality players and the focus is to keep improving, collect points and achieve the club’s targets.”

Murwira maintained that there were no hard feelings and described his spell at the ambitious club as a positive experience.

“Scottland is a good club with big ambitions. Sometimes in football you have to make decisions that help your career.

“I am grateful for my time there and now my full focus is on Hunters,” he said.

His arrival comes at a crucial stage for Hunters, who are currently in 14th position with 20 points after MatchDay 21.

FC Hunters now shift focus to their next game against ZPC Kariba on Saturday, the two sides are tied on the same number of points and a win will be crucial for both sides.
