Nineteen-year-old Ivy Micah who was crowned Miss Face of Kariba a fortnight ago has scoffed at media reports that she earned the title on immoral and unethical grounds. According to reports several models including Ivy were allegedly sexually harassed by Alois Chimbangu the pageant organiser.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the young model said she was never going to surrender the title because of rumours from ungrateful models.
“I was crowned the Queen of the Face of Kariba pageant under normal adjudication and this title would not mean anything if it was attained under immoral and degrading circumstances,
“There was nothing like abuse in the boot camp, our organisers did their best for the show to be a success. These allegations are coming from ungrateful models who failed to win the title,” she said.
The young model said she was not subjected to any form of harassment by anyone.
“Personally I did not experience anything related to the allegations being made by these girls and if it’s a matter of truth. I strongly advise them to make a formal complaint so that investigations can be made rather than rushing to the Press,” said Ivy.
She said such claims were creeping into beauty pageants in Zimbabwe.
“The kind of stories are becoming common with almost every beauty pageants.
“It does not end there, it affects my title and the good intentions of the pageant as a whole,” she said.
Ivy said that all beauty pageants should be formalised to avoid such malice.
“The modelling profession is growing fast in Zimbabwe and I believe more focus now should be on organising external boards of inquiry that oversee the running of all beauty pageants.
“That way maybe we can all eliminate issues to do with sexual harassment,” she said.
The Face of Kariba beauty pageant was held last December for the first time in the history of the resort town. More than 20 models took part.
