MIDFIELDER Ramson Zhuwawo is positive he will be able to secure a club in the capital before the 2015 Castle Lager Premiership season kicks off in March. The 2009 Soccer Star of the Year’s contract at Chicken Inn expired at the end of last year and the Bulawayo club are not keen to renew it.

Zhuwawo is not in Harare and hoping to find a job before the start of the Premiership season in March.

The former Gunners talisman’s career has taken a knock since he was released from South African Premiership side Amazulu after he saw limited game time under former coach Craig Rosslee in June 2013.

“At the moment I have not yet settled for a club. I am still weighing the options available for me,” said Zhuwawo. The former Warriors midfielder indicated that he is not looking at returning to South Africa at least for now.

“I have been talking to a few teams and they are yet to come back to me. But I would like to be in Harare this time and I hope something will work out before the start of the season,” said Zhuwawo.

While Zhuwawo feels that he can still play in the elite league, the player could end up at Gunners who are in the Zifa Northern Region Division One. Gunners failed to return to the Premiership after losing the Division One race to Flame Lily but the 2009 Premiership Champions are eager to build a strong squad that could bounce back in the top league.

Wellington Mpandare, who was manager when they won the championship under Moses Chunga, is back at the team while popular preacher Prophet Walter Magaya has a major stake in the team.

Gunners are in fact also looking for a possibility of acquiring a Premiership franchise should there be any sale. Meanwhile, Danny Phiri’s camp yesterday remained tight-lipped about where the talented defensive linkman would be playing this season. Phiri’s contract with Chicken Inn also ended on December 31 and the star anchorman is at the moment linked with a number of clubs in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

He had a magnificent Chan tournament in South Africa at the beginning of last year. However, he appeared not to have carried the same form to the domestic league but still stayed a key member of Joey Antipas’s rebuilding side where competition was hot with Thabani Goredema and Brian Juru notables in that department.

Contacted for comment yesterday his manager Fortune Chisale said there were several options for the player. He said they were not in a hurry to sign on the dotted line as the player’s progression on the field was something that they were looking.

“It was at Chicken Inn where he blossomed as a player. The environment was good for him to develop and build his own profile so it’s one thing we would have to take into consideration,” said Chisale. Three local clubs have entered the race for his signature with Chicken Inn eager to wage a serious challenge this season keen to retain him. Dynamos are also eager for his services as are Highlanders. —Sportszone
