Standards Association of Zimbabwe director-general Ms Eve Gadzikwa said this at Jacob Bethel Corporation Zimbabwe Ltd ISO rectification in Harare recently.
“There is need to provide efficient machinery to enable these sectors to produce products which can contribute to economic growth and development and also generate foreign currency for our country.
“Another key constraint that businesses are dealing with today is the need to retool our factories in order to be more competitive and to reduce unit cost of production,” he said.
Jacob Bethel was recently presented with Quality Management ISO 9001:2008 and Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001:2004 certificates.
Ms Gadzikwa added that the quality certifications showed that JBC is not only committed to supplying quality products but also to preserving the environment.
“Quality is not just about implementing a system or working towards a set standard, it is about senior management embracing best practice and instilling it within the organisation’s culture,” she said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Jacob Bethel general manager Mr Shadreck Gasura said ISO certification was not an end in itself but a means to an end.
“We commit to going beyond mere certification, we therefore promise to our valued stakeholders to perform in the areas of quality and environment in ways that add quantifiable value to businesses.
“As part of continuous improvement we continue to innovate on our processes and equip our plants with state-of-the-art production facilities,” he said.
JBC has got two branches in Harare and Bulawayo where Harare is a leading manufacturer, supplier and distributor of coring, soft and hard rock tools, ancillary equipment and service to the mining, quarrying and civil engineering sectors within the sub-Saharan African region.
JBC Bulawayo is a major supplier of mineral processing equipment and services to the mining sector.
