Mukudzeyi Mukombe aka Jah Prayzah has been appointed brand ambassador for Dream Star Zimbabwe, formerly Zimbabwe Got Talent.
The Tsviriyo hitmaker was named as the ambassador at the launch of the Talent search show last Thursday.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Dream Star Zimbabwe spokesperson Rumbidzayi Matinanga said they looked at a number of things before appointing an ambassador.
“We did not just wake up and decide to appoint Jah Prayzah as the ambassador, but we looked at a number of things before reaching a decision.
“Among the things we looked at is that we wanted an artiste who came from nowhere in the music industry and made it. In other words, we were looking for a dreamer whose dreams came true and Jah Prayzah was our best candidate.
“If you talk to him about his background, you will find out that he was just an ordinary boy who grew up in the communal lands of Uzumba, but that did not stop him from dreaming big and now that dreamer is now a star. The other thing is Jah Prayzah has turned music into a business, he has offices and in his offices he has a structure that includes an accountant, a manager, etc and that is our dream – to produce young stars who will turn their talent into business,” she said.
Jah Prayzah said he was overwhelmed by the recognition and pledged to assist the young talent in whatever way he can.
“I am happy and would want to thank God who has taken me this far.
“One of my roles is to nurture young talent and that I will do wholeheartedly because I was once a dreamer.
“My dream came true and I am sure these young children’s dream will also come true if their talents are nurtured at an early stage,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dream Star Zimbabwe will this year cover most of the country and the auditions are starting on July 24. The semi-finals are to be held in August. Matinanga said the 10 finalists were set to go for a cultural exchange programme in China together with the last year’s winners.
“I can safely say at least 40 people are set to go for a cultural exchange programme in China in September before the finals,” he said.
This year’s winner will walk away $5 000 richer.
