“WHAT a beautiful evening. I can’t see you because of the lights, but I know you can see me. I know you have expectations, but I expect God to revive you. Thank you for coming.”

Those heartfelt words from gospel music powerhouse Janet Manyowa perfectly set the tone for what became an unforgettable night of worship at the packed 7Arts Theatre in Avondale on Saturday.

Far from being just another concert, Worship Moments was exactly what its name promised — an intimate encounter with God wrapped in musical excellence, heartfelt ministry and world-class production.

From the moment the lights dimmed until the final song, the evening carried an atmosphere that drew worshippers into moments of reflection, celebration and praise.

“12-13 years there about came this concept, and I am happy we are now here,” she said.

Long before Janet stepped onto the stage, the audience had already been warmed up by rising gospel outfit Vocal Base.

The energetic ensemble continues to prove why they are rapidly becoming a force to reckon with in Zimbabwe’s gospel music landscape.

Their vibrant choreography, tight harmonies and infectious stage presence instantly won over the audience.

They combined youthful energy with spiritual depth, leaving many convinced that the future of Zimbabwean gospel music is in safe hands.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. As Janet emerged onto the beautifully designed stage, the theatre erupted into a thunderous standing ovation.

It was not merely applause for a celebrated gospel musician but appreciation for an artiste who has consistently raised the standard of gospel events in Zimbabwe.

What continues to distinguish Janet from many of her contemporaries is her unwavering commitment to quality.

Every Worship Moments event bears her signature touch — excellence in production, attention to detail and a classy presentation that rivals international standards.

Having become synonymous with hosting large-scale productions at the Harare International Convention Centre (HICC), many wondered whether moving to the more intimate 7Arts Theatre would compromise the grandeur associated with her concerts.

Instead, she completely transformed the venue. The stage décor was breathtaking.

Soft lighting, elegant rustic vases, floral and candle arrangements and carefully curated visual effects converted the theatre into a sanctuary-like setting.

The cream, nude and gold colour palette that dominated both the stage and the performers’ wardrobe created a warm yet majestic atmosphere.

Together with her well-coordinated team, Janet looked as though heaven’s gates had momentarily opened, with every visual element complementing the night’s message of hope and worship.

Backed by an exceptional live band and polished vocalists, Janet effortlessly moved from one worship anthem to another.

Her powerful vocals remained as captivating as ever, while her sincerity in worship resonated deeply with the audience.

Throughout the evening, many could be seen singing with eyes closed, hands lifted and hearts fully engaged in the experience.

One of the night’s most touching moments came when schoolchildren joined Janet on stage.

Their innocent voices and dance moves blended beautifully with hers, creating a heartwarming picture of different generations united in worship. It was a reminder that worship knows no age and that the gospel continues to inspire even the youngest believers.

The evening also featured appearances by seasoned gospel stars Mathias Mhere and the acclaimed Joyfull Praise Choir, adding further richness to an already outstanding programme.

Mathias Mhere, often celebrated for his energetic praise songs, demonstrated his versatility with a worship-filled performance that complemented the night’s theme.

His recent collaboration with Janet also reinforced why he deserved a place on the Worship Moments stage. The highlight for many was Janet’s performance of her new single, “Mufaro Washe,” alongside Joyfull Praise Choir.

The collaboration was received with overwhelming excitement as the audience sang along and celebrated the coming together of two of Zimbabwe’s most respected gospel music brands.

The chemistry between Janet and the choir elevated the song into one of the defining moments of the evening.

While Worship Moments was built around worship, there were enough bursts of joyful praise to keep the audience on its feet.

It was a carefully balanced experience that flowed naturally between quiet moments of reflection and exuberant celebration.

By the close of the concert, one thing had become abundantly clear: Janet has mastered the art of creating more than concerts.

She creates experiences.

Among the many satisfied attendees was Harare worshipper Rutendo Chikukwa, who could hardly contain her excitement after the show.

“This was worth every dollar. Janet never disappoints. The worship, the production, the atmosphere and the guest performances were all excellent. I came expecting a concert, but I’m leaving spiritually refreshed. This wasn’t just entertainment — it was an encounter with God. I can’t wait for the next Worship Moments,” said Rutendo Chikukwa.
