Tanaka Mahanya

JAPAN’S Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Satoshi Tanaka, said his country has pledged to work for further development of bilateral relations with Zimbabwe.

He said Japan was reaffirming its commitment to foster cooperation and was assuring Zimbabwe that preparations of the Osaka Kansai Expo were on course.

Zimbabwe is set to attend the sixth edition of the Expo.

“The Expo is the largest meeting place which brings countries together, including the private sector and civil society.

“This Expo would be an excellent platform for professionals in the industry to exchange ideas and information.

“The aim is to create an innovative setting where everyone would work together in building momentum for the Expo,” he said.

He said, based on its extensive experience in hosting previous expos, Japan understands the challenges of developing countries and an assistance programme, covering the periods before, during, and after the Expo has been set up.

“The assistance will be in the form of financial assistance and technical support, to cover 80 to 100 countries.

“With this development, I believe Zimbabwe will be able to benefit from the facility.

“The Expo will show that Zimbabwe is indeed open for business.”

The expo will run under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.
