37-YEAR-OLD Jealous Mukorera, better known as Great Khali in the streets of Mutare and beyond, finally regained his freedom on Wednesday after being discharged by provincial magistrate Mr Honest Moyo.
Mukorera’s release followed the testimony of key state witness James Sanganai, who stated that Mukorera and his three co-accused were not responsible for the assault.
The other three individuals released alongside Mukorera are Maqhawe Sibanda (43), Spencer Gwinyai (49), and Pension Gwinyai (25).
They had been arrested in connection with an assault on the complainant at Beer Engine Bar along Second Street on June 17.
The quartet had remained in custody due to the State witness’s failure to appear in court, but his eventual testimony led to their release.
Prosecutor Mr Last Goredema attributed the delay in the case’s completion to the State witness’s absence.
Magistrate Musiyiwa presided over the case, while Mr Chris Ndlovu, of Gonese and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners represented Mukorera and the others.
A previous High Court bail application had been unsuccessful, with Justice Isaac Muzenda remitting the matter back to the regional court.
