A 39-YEAR-OLD man, Goodwell Kamunda, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly killing his live-in girlfriend, Felina Kazembe, in a violent jealous rage at her Chiendambuya homestead.
The fatal attack occurred on January 2, after Kamunda discovered that Kazembe had brought another man, Blessing Charwadza (26), to her home, where the two reportedly shared a room.
According to sources, Kazembe left Kamunda at a local business centre before taking Charwadza to her homestead, where they slept in her kitchen hut.
Later that night, Kamunda allegedly sneaked into the hut and lay beside Kazembe, unaware that Charwadza was also present.
When Charwadza’s mother arrived to collect her son, Kamunda’s suspicions were confirmed.
Enraged, he chased Charwadza, but failed to catch him.
Returning to the kitchen hut, Kamunda seized a log from the fireplace and brutally assaulted Kazembe, striking her repeatedly across the body.
Neighbours were alerted after Kamunda himself informed them of the incident, and police were subsequently called to the scene. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Sources revealed that Kamunda and Kazembe’s relationship had long been marred by tension and mistrust, with allegations of Kazembe’s infidelity fuelling frequent disputes.
Kamunda appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Barbra Mateko, facing one count of murder under Section 47(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23), which criminalises unlawful killing.
Ms Mateko did not ask him to plead, and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
He was remanded in custody until January 26 for routine remand.
Prosecutor, Mrs Faith Mutukwa told the court that Kamunda attacked Kazembe indiscriminately, inflicting severe injuries across her body and targeting her privates.
“On January 2, 2026 at around 9pm, at Mwendazviuya Village, Chiendambuya, Chief Makoni, Goodwell Kamunda committed an assault upon the now deceased, Felani Kazembe, with wooden logs and an unknown sharp object on the head, left leg and all over the body. The deceased victim sustained deep cuts on the left side of the face, head, bruises all over the body, swollen privates, which were bleeding with a cut on the right side, and a broken left leg,” Mutukwa told the court.
She said the accused person was last seen with the now deceased, who was screaming and begging for water.
A blood-stained wooden log, allegedly used by the accused person to attack the victim, was recovered.
The accused person was seen severely assaulting the deceased after she had sustained a broken leg.
